Lesson #1. Online Marketing -Don’t spread yourself too thin.

Millions of new websites are launched on the Internet every month, which is hundreds of thousands of sites each and every day. It stands to reason that most people launch a website with no knowledge of what it takes to make their site successful. To be sure, not every website is a product or service oriented site that needs to be successful according to how ever it is measured. Some sites are personal blogs, like a personal diary, with no purpose other than as a blank page for the writer to put down their thoughts.

However, for the other sites, those that are intended to be successful and profitable, a marketing plan is needed to get the product or service in front of the people who will buy or consume what you have to offer.

For the new internet marketer, the biggest mistake is trying to do everything. Website development includes technical, sales, marketing, product development, research, and, a whole lot more. Very few people have all the skills; most people excel at one or two of the required skills but not all of them.

If a business partner is not an option, consider outsourcing. There are many sites where you can find people who build websites, specialize in search engine optimization, keyword research, adsense placement, and affiliate promotion, Instead of compromising yourself before you get the chance to shine, check out your outsourcing options and don't spread yourself too thin.
